Launceston Student Workshop Inc. (Student Works)

Launceston Student Workshop (Student Works) is an alternate education program suited to those students who learn in a more practical manner. We aim to provide training in employability and life skills, within our industrial workplace environment, located at 199 Georgetown Road, Rocherlea. The organisation has been operating since 1978 and work with students aged 14 to 16 years who are currently enrolled in Northern High Schools can be referred to the organisation. The program operates in conjunction with local high schools, industry and community groups. Launceston Student Workshop Inc is partially funded by the Department of Education and the General Manager is employed by the Department of Education. To remain viable Studentworks must operate as a sustainable commercial business and income must be generated from sale of product. The organisation undertakes Catering, Wood, Metal and Warehousing. Some of the products currently produced include steel grates and lintels, outdoor and street furniture, domestic timber furniture, architectural products cut on a Computer Numerical Cutting (CNC) machine, packaging of consumables, corporate catering services.
