Australian Kookaburra Kids Foundation’s (AKKF) mission is to empower young people to thrive beyond the impacts of mental illness. Through our Programs, we offer young people (aged between 8 and 18 years of age) experiencing family mental illness, the opportunity to learn and grow, while having fun, in a safe and supportive environment. The early intervention programs educate young people about mental health whilst socialising with other young people.

We call our volunteer program fun and flexible because volunteers sign up for opportunities to assist on 3 core programs.

Camps - run over a weekend from Friday afternoon - Sunday afternoon and our volunteers get involved in supporting young people with the activities, run chat groups and connect with the young people.

Activity Days - are run mainly on a weekend sometimes they run during the week in school holidays and volunteers get involved in supporting young people on the activity, run a chat group and connect with young people.

Connect - is an online chat run via Zoom for 45 mins where volunteers help facilitate the session. They can do a brain activity and an online activity along with having a general chat with the other participants and Hosts.

To become a volunteer with AKKF you need to have a passion for supporting young people, valid Blue Card, undertake our National Police Check and provide 2 professional referee checks.
