Restore Hope Foundation Esperance Ltd

THE BEGINNING (2006) Chris Boland was concerned about the issue of the homelessness in town, particularly for those suffering from chronic mental health issues. He found that homelessness, because of its very nature, was closely associated with the issues of mental health. SOUP KITCHEN Within a short time, it became a matter of necessity that the charity's base be broadened to help more of the needy of our community. It became obvious that the many in our town and surrounding towns were struggling due to the economic situation, which in turn had caused more hardship through higher costs for food and basic utilities. And so the soup kitchen began in July 2008 SLEEP FOR THE HOMELESS In August each year, a group of brave supporters of the Foundation sleep in the Esperance Soundshell in an effort to identify with those who have no choice about sleeping on the streets. GENEROUS DONOURS With a generous donation from Magellan Metals, the Foundation was able to have a commercial kitchen built in the form of a caravan. This has been used to cook meals from donated ingredients, which can be handed out to those needing help. It is also used as a base at fundraising activities for selling either food of coffee and cool drinks to raise much needed funds to keep this vital work going. Woolworths gave the Foundation the funds to purchase a coolroom, another important step in the preparation and storage of foodstuff. In late 2012, a grant was received from Lottery-West for the purchase of a new Toyota HiAce van, which included a fridge/freezer compartment to assist in the pickup and delivery of food. This was a huge improvement from the previous small van.
