RABBIT RUN-AWAY ORPHANAGE is Victoria's FIRST dedicated NO KILL Pet Rabbit Rescue. We are a non-profit organisation and operates as a public charity, run by a committee, with small dedicated group of volunteers. The Orphanage receives no government funding and is reliant on donations and fundraising. It is an entity that belongs to all people that care about the welfare of pet rabbits. We advocate rabbits as indoor pets as they are prey animals, and not a predator to any other creature. We are committed to providing educational services to encourage responsible rabbit ownership, due to the large number of young rabbits, which are mistreated or die, due to neglect or ignorance about their care, or end up in shelters, many of which are euthanised so early in their lives. Rabbit Run-Away Orphanage is committed to the ethical treatment and moral rights of animals that share our world and in particular pet rabbits. Rabbit Run-Away Orphanage aims to: provide care for sick, unwanted, stray, or mistreated rabbits facilitate: appropriate short-term care medical treatment rehabilitation treatment long-term re-homing solutions educate the public on rabbit ownership and care prevent unnecessary euthanasia of rabbits discourage cruelty to rabbits Rabbits come to Rabbit Run-Away Orphanage as ‘overflows’ from council shelters, private rescues and other shelters throughout Victoria. Rabbits also come to the Orphanage as a result of being dumped, neglected, handed into vets or rescued through the orphanage’s rescue service.
