Kids Under Cover is a not for profit organisation dedicated to preventing youth homelessness. They are the only organisation in Australia offering young people the unique combination of supported housing options with scholarships for education expenses to keep young people engaged with the community. At the centre of the work is the Kids Under Cover Studio Program. The program provides temporary, responsive accommodation to those experiencing difficult living conditions due to trauma combined with severe overcrowding by offering one or two bedroom, fully relocatable studios with bathroom, constructed on the grounds of the family/carer's home. Studios can last for 20 years and will support up to five worthy families in their lifetime. The studios provide physical and emotional space for all family members. The program reduces tension and conflict, improves relationships, and gives young people the space to make good choices. The Scholarship program is used to financially assist young people who have the passion and the motivation to go on to higher education but do not have the resources. Without the restraints of educational fees and associated costs, the students will be free to focus on achieving great personal results. The Kids Under Cover Studio Program, complemented with scholarships has proven to be a simple yet effective approach to the long-term prevention of youth homelessness.
