The Nature Conservation Society of South Australia is a community based, not-for-profit organisation established in 1962 with members and supporters drawn from all parts of the State and all walks of life. As South Australia’s primary nature conservation advocate, our primary objective is to further the conservation of South Australia’s unique biodiversity assets through informed, evidence-based dialogue. Complimentary objectives include: • protection and management of habitats, particularly native vegetation • research into threatened species and habitats • community engagement and education • advocacy to ensure adequate park dedication, management and legislation • collaboration with other conservation groups and land managers Some of the Society’s major achievements have included the cessation of broad scale native vegetation clearance in South Australia, the protection of many of the parks and reserves that the public enjoy today, and the stimulus for what has ultimately become the current Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.
