‘The Mission to Seafarers is a worldwide organisation caring for some of the 1.5 million seafarers who bring much of our daily needs to us, regardless of their race creed or colour. There are over 260 MtS Centres around the world. The Mission to Seafarers was established in Hobart in 1915 and is now situated at 31 Morrison Street. The major demand on our facilities occurs when Cruise Ships are visiting and up to 200 crew visit the ‘Flying Angel Centre’ in a day. With 64 anticipated Cruise ship visits during the 2017 season from October to April there will be considerable pressure to maintain our service to seafarers and be open from 10 am to 10 pm, with six volunteers each working a four hour shift during the day.’ Mission to Seafarers is an Anglican charity.
