Every year over 17,000 greyhounds are killed in Australia when they are no longer wanted by their greyhound racing industry owners, syndicates and/or trainers. Named after the online classified site, Gumtree Greys are a 100% volunteer-based charity that rescues and rehomes greyhounds from a variety of sources across eastern Australia, with a primary focus on Gumtree online classifieds, regional pounds and directly from trainers. At Gumtree Greys our mission is to rescue greyhounds, place them into appropriate foster care and ultimately have them adopted into loving, permanent homes. Contrary to popular belief, these gentle, loving dogs require minimal exercise. Greyhounds make the most wonderful pets for families, couples, singles, the elderly - in fact, there is a perfect greyhound for everyone!
