The City of Hobart Bushcare program provides an opportunity for the community to work with the Council to help care for and protect Hobart’s much-loved bushland reserves. Bushcare volunteers help enhance wildlife habitat, protect threatened flora, maintain and develop tracks and educate the community. Volunteering with a Bushcare group is also a great opportunity to connect with nature, meet other like-minded people and have a laugh, and learn a few new skills along the way. The City of Hobart provides direct support to volunteers working within 14 Bushcare groups across the city, from Cornelian Bay to Wellington Park, Sandy Bay and beyond. On average, 120 people volunteer with our Bushcare program each month. With additional field days and special events, Bushcare volunteers contribute over 4,000 hours each year to regenerating local bushland and raising awareness of Hobart’s incredible natural environment. The City’s Bushcare program also provides support to schools and other organisations undertaking community-based care of Hobart’s bushland. Volunteering for only a few hours a year can help make a difference to Hobart’s bushland areas. The efforts of Bushcare volunteers help restore and protect bushland in Hobart not just for today, but for generations to come. Bushcare provides volunteers with a sense of purpose and an opportunity to be part of something meaningful, while having fun, making friends and learning something new.
