This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about environmental conservation to make a meaningful impact on local ecosystems and contribute to the preservation of biodiversity in the Caboolture region.You will need to be physically fit for working outdoors undertaking moderately paced activities. Gardening or Landcare experience is highly desirable.

Landcare Volunteer duties include weeding, seed collecting or processing, litter removal, site maintenance tasks and tree planting.

Training is provided in the following tasks and you will learn as per task requirement:

  • Invasive weed identification and control methods for various restricted and environmental weeds common in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast areas.
  • Ethical herbicide control treatments
  • Learn various restoration practices which assist weed control and weed suppression
  • Habitat restoration, Tree planting. Planting maintenance such as watering and general plant care.
  • Industry-standard biosecurity, Environmental protection laws and OHS protocols and standard operating procedures for certain industry equipment (Brushcutters, mechanical augers etc)
  • Wearing mandatory PPE
  • Environmental pollution control, Cleaning up rubbish
  • Seed collection
  • Local fauna ID and fauna monitoring
  • Site assessment, site reporting and site management practices
  • Learn native and invasive plant ID
  • Vegetation types and regional ecosystems mapping.
  • Basic structural understanding of various vegetation types
  • Plant morphology and physiology, plant reproduction, plant requirements
  • Ecosystem roles in our environment, benefits to climate change, rain cycles, soil health, biodiversity

Participating in this role you will help to support:

  • Protection and preservation of natural areas
  • Native plant restoration uses, such as habitat restoration, erosion control, biofiltration
