'Guulabaa' Koala Care team member

Koala Conservation Australia

Are you keen to support the team at Koala Conservation Australia? Our volunteers love working here, knowing everything they do contributes to the conservation of koalas.

We are seeking self-motivated volunteers, to support the exciting new facility with the wild koala breeding program in Cowarra State Forest, known as 'Guulabaa'.

Volunteers will need to be fit and capable of working in a challenging environment. The new facility in the forest is a bushland environment, with uneven surfaces, steep slopes, insects, reptiles and wildlife.

The work is outdoors and you could be exposed to all weather conditions, and some days may involve a lot of walking and lifting, so a medium level of physical capability is required.

The role also involves adhering to strict animal welfare and biosecurity procedures, work and health and safety procedures and 100% respect of a wild animal. This means there is no touching, no handling, no feeding, no talking, no photos etc.

We have a Morning shift and Afternoon shift available each day. At this stage, the morning volunteer shift operates between 8:30am – 10am whilst the afternoon shift operates between 2pm – 3pm. These times may extend during 2024.

We seek volunteers specifically for the following shifts. • Ongoing & reliable volunteers for Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon • Back up volunteers for all shifts but in particular Saturday & Sunday morning and afternoon

Work could involve raking and cleaning individual koala yards, carrying branches and cutting leaf within set protocols, topping up water containers, feeding formula to some koalas, and generally tidying up whatever is required in the yards.

These roles would suit people with commitment to animal conservation, or if you are studying for a captive animal qualification, or just want to help look after, and learn more about our iconic koalas.
