Volunteer to support people with Down syndrome in a fun exercise program: FitSkills

FitSkills is an evidence-based physical activity program for people with Down syndrome. In this program the person with Down syndrome will be matched with a volunteer partner. The program runs throughout the term and participants go to the gym together with their matched volunteer once a week followed by a meal with other participants and volunteers.

What commitment is required from volunteers?

As a volunteer you would be matched with an adult with Down syndrome and attend one of the FitSkills locations. You support them by attending the FitSkills session each week, working out together and helping them stay motivated to attend. The program requires a commitment of the following:

Completeing the compliance requirements Going to the gym with your partner once a week, followed by a meal with the FitSkills group Supporting your partner in their FitSkills journey Liaising with the physiotherapist during the assessment appointments
