It's true. Grannies do it. But there's more to volunteering than selling cardigans at the local op-shop. Don't get us wrong, we love grannies, cardies and op-shops. But volunteers come from all ages and backgrounds. And they do the most amazing things. Without them, the world would be very different. In a not-very-good way. More please

Mentoring underprivileged children

By Brigid
I wanted to use my work/life experience and skills in a meaningful way to volunteer, so when I found the opportunity on SEEK to provide mentoring to an underprivilaged child through the Smith Family, I knew it was the right choice for me. I hoped my experieces and encouragement would help my teenage mentee find a clearer path to their interests in life and work, but found I learned so much from them about bravery, tolerance and ambition to succeed. There is no doubt I found great satisfaction in sharing and encouraging a young person but I was surprised by how enlightening and fulfilling the whole experience was. I highly recommend it!!
