Organisation: The Buttery is a not-for-profit charitable addiction and mental health organisation established in 1973. We deliver evidence-based long and short-term residential rehabilitation and outreach programs to support people living with alcohol and substance misuse and mental health conditions to achieve recovery and rebuild their lives. We have provided services to over 5,000 participants in its residential programs and 20,000 participants in its outreach services. The Buttery is an independent, community-based charitable organisation and is not affiliated with any religious or political groups.

Location The organisation is headquartered near Bangalow in Northern NSW but also has offices from Tweed Heads in the North to Port Macquarie in the South. As well as residential programs, The Buttery also operates community outreach programs throughout the NSW Mid-North Coast and NSW Northern Rivers Regions.

Funding As a charity, The Buttery relies on the generous donations from the community, donors, several foundations philanthropists, trusts, families and individuals The Buttery gratefully acknowledges the financial support it receives from the NSW State and Commonwealth Governments.

About the role The Buttery is pleased to announce it has voluntary opportunities for talented people to join our Board. We currently have a diverse range of skills among our current Board members and Legal and/or Financial experience at Board level have been identified as key priorities. Prior Board experience is preferred but not essential. An understanding of corporate governance principles would also be helpful.

Meeting requirements: Board meetings take place online so your location is flexible. The designated time is the fourth Monday of each month at 6.30pm generally for 2 hours. Additionally, it meets two or three times a year for face-to-face strategy, and/or planning sessions. As a minimum, board members should expect to participate in approximately 8 to 10 board meetings per annum and review board papers.

Skill Areas required: Applications are open to professionals with Legal and/or Financial experience

  1. Availability to attend Board meetings
  2. Relevant qualifications in Law or Finance
  3. Demonstrated skills in strategic leadership, governance and change management and commitment to collaborative leadership and alignment with the vision and values of The Buttery
